It is hard to believe that summer is just about over!  For the senior parents, the ride has just started!  Before you know it you will be taking Prom photos and wondering how you will stay awake all night long to work at After Prom!
For those who don’t know me, I have been the Chairperson for After Prom for the Class of 2012 and 2015.  Helping to provide a safe and entertaining evening on the night of Prom, created lasting memories, for my After Prom parent team and all the students, that will last a lifetime.  It takes nine months and a dedicated large team of parents to make After Prom an amazing experience for our students.
I have had a fair number of now senior parents ask me about getting involved. So far, no one has stepped up to be the Chairperson or Treasurer to lead this adventure.  I have agreed to coordinate the first meeting (only) for After Prom for the Class of 2016 to get the project off to a running start.  I invite you to attend the first meeting and see how you can help.  There are a slew of ways you can help, from selling candy bars, to volunteering, to leading one of 18 committees.  Don’t be shy about going out of your comfort zone to take on a role.  There are notes, minutes and binders from other classes to help.
The first meeting for the Class of 2016 will be Monday, August 10, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chesterland Public Library.
Last year we celebrated the 30th anniversary of After Prom at West Geauga.  I can’t convey in words how supportive the school administration, high school teachers and community are in continuing this tradition to keep our seniors safe on the night of Prom.  I hope you will provide your talents and support this year.

Life after our adventure has started to return to normal, but the memories of After Prom 2015, It’s Time to Fly, will last a lifetime.  To see the photos of the set up, and how the West Geauga High School gym was transformed in a mere three days is amazing.  In case you missed the hard work of the transformation ad excitement of After Prom night, you are invited to watch this video of After Prom, May 15th into 16th, 2015:  https://youtu.be/DQjVSNfIWHg

Set up times to begin the transformation from a gym to a destination, will begin on Tuesday evening, May 12th.  A few strong guys needed to move the Monte Carlo structure to the high school gym.  We are meeting at the decorating site at 6:00.

Wednesday, construction begins on Monte Carlo with lift off of the hot air balloons that day as well.  Strong guys also needed at 5:00 at the decorating site to begin moving all the other decorating materials from the site and barn to school.  We will begin set up then as well.

Thursday and Friday are heavy set up decorating days.  Come for an hour, all day or all night.  Times are Thursday at 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.  Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 4:00.

All fresh arms, legs and bodies are need for clean up on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m until the gym is swept clean.  Then rest and relaxation on Sunday!

Can’t wait for the flight to begin Friday night at midnight!

We are so excited to be able to celebrate 30 years of After Prom at West Geauga!  We could not accomplish this amazing transformation and hosting of the event without the support of our community.  Thank you to the Maple Leaf and Chesterland News for promoting and celebrating the 30th Anniversary with us.  Read the article at:  http://www.chesterlandnews.com/news/west-geauga-hs-after-prom-celebrates-30-years/

The core group of After Prom parents have been working tirelessly since September to fund raise for our event. We have sold raffle tickets for: many baskets; a limo; a tuxedo; and a dorm package. We have sold over 9,000 Malley’s candy bars – wow!  Our committee leaders have organized a wine tasting, an amazing Prom Extravaganza fashion show, a senior show and a flea market.  In between the big events we have also successfully campaigned for support from the senior parents and local businesses, as well as sold Superbowl squares, NCAA basket ball squares, poinsettia plants, HoneyBaked hams and Bada Bing gift certificates. It has taken a tremendous effort to coordinate and with your generous support, we are now ready to focus 110% on hosting an After Prom event that will be enjoyed by the entire class of 2015. Thank you to all who coordinated and supported these many fundraising adventures!

volunteer_clip_art_01As the calendar days tick down until After Prom, the volunteer lists still need filled.  We are looking for energetic parents to set up, help host the night of After Prom, and clean up. There are still slots available for all areas and we would love to have you join us!

We begin setting up for After Prom on Wednesday, May 13th at 8:00 a.m. We need strong men to help move props, as well as trucks to transport materials. At 4:00 p.m on Wendesday we need more trucks and more guys to transport our packed decorating site and materials from our storage barn to the high school. We will begin setting up Wednesday evening as time and energy allows. We need handy dads and energetic parents to assist all day and evening on Thursday, as well as Friday until 4:00.

After Prom begins at midnight on Friday, May 15th rolling into Saturday, May 16th. We need volunteers to assist with various parts of the evening, including the casino area, midway and minute to win it games, as well as chaperoning various areas of the event.

Traditionally, the junior class parents help to clean up after the event, so that they know what to store, and what they have available for their own class’s After Prom. Unfortunately, we only have a few junior parents to assist this year, which means the tired and wear senior parents need to roll out of bed after a few winks to spend the day cleaning up after the event. We welcome any junior or senior parents, students or senior parents to assist with clean up.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. E-mail WGAfterProm@yahoo.com if you can assist with setting up, volunteering the night of After Prom or with clean up. Our core group thanks you for making this a special evening as we keep our seniors safe on the night of Prom!
